TITLE: LOVE TRUTH
AUTHORED BY PASTOR CHARLES AND FAVOUR CHUKWUEMEZIE
PROVERBS 27:5-6 ‘Open rebuke is better than love that is hidden. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are lavish and deceitful.”
Many of us would claim to love the truth, but in reality truth doesn’t always come in the package we usually enjoy. Truth may be bitter; yet, truth is always better. Someone may love you and keep it to himself, that’s not a problem at all compared to when someone who has the right to correct you decides to pretend that all is well.
How can you possibly retrace your steps when you are on the wrong path if there’s no one to call your attention. King David in trying to cover up one sin of adultery committed another one(murder) then a prophet of God shows up to tell him the truth about his wickedness, he breaks down and repents in response to the truth. Good for him right? He receives mercy. That’s what happens when we love truth.
But, there’s another king, Asa, he was doing so well till one time he gave in to fear which led him to rely on a man-the king of Syria unlike other times when he relied on God. Hanani came to tell him the truth about his deviation. Instead of accepting the truth with humility, he put the man of God in prison. You can put the truth teller in the prison, but you can’t lock the truth up. Since he refused to repent, he died terribly sick. Pride didn’t let him consult God even at the point of death. God resist the proud. The proud can never accept truth.
Don’t kick away people who tell you the truth. It may hurt but, you may need to thank them soon. Not taking in truth with a heart of humility can spring up regrets. Choose what you listen to based on truth. If it has its basis on the word of God, don’t ignore it. Even if the person bringing it does not appeal to you, once it is the truth… embrace it.
