TITLE: WHO IS YOUR COUNSELOR?
AUTHORED BY PASTOR CHARLES AND FAVOUR CHUKWUEMEZIE
1 KINGS 12:8 “But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:”
Who you give your ears to is so important, because your life is a combination of what you hear, what you see and who you associate with. Not everyone should speak into your life, be it prophecy or advise.
A particular young man Amnon was in a mess, lusting after his own sister, if only the right person arrived just in time, maybe he would had a rethink, but no, it was a bad counsellor that helped him with the words he needed to go on with the evil desire that turned him and his brother into enemies.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.
Rehoboam has just been made a king, instead taking wise advise from the elders, he choose to take the advice of some silly young men. He preferred rulership over leadership, and that cost him the loyalty of the people. PROVERBS 24:6 “For by wise counsel you can wage your war, and in an abundance of counselors there is victory and safety.”
Who is your counselor, why did you choose to make that person your counselor, what are your criteria for choosing who counsels you?
Your counselor must not be an elder by age or experience, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a multitude of counselors, but you must make sure the advise you take does not contradict God’s word, will and purpose for your life. Check the underlining motive of every advise also.
